Review of an entry level blu – ray player from Denon - DBP-1610

How DBP-1610 looks?
The front panel is really the first aesthetic element of the 1610 that will impress you, with one long arc that goes from top to bottom. The player doesn't look like one of those fragile players that would break their chassis if you open the box too quick. This machine is as rigid and tough as the silver-finished frame makes it look. Everything has been kept subtle, from the buttons to the little logos on the bottom right of the front panel that can only be seen if you look at them very closely or from a certain angle. At the same time, there are a lot of empty places on this player that's as obvious on the front panel as it is on the back, which is always a good thing.

Features of DBP-1610 in detail
Being that this is the entry-level player from the series, some of the objects have been left out such as an aluminum front panel and multi-channel analogue outputs along with an extra digital optical output if you want the onboard decoder to process the audio signal via its high resolution Burr-Brown DAC. You can take the signal out from its stereo analogue outputs, and if not, an HDMI and digital output are also available.

There is also plethora of features those have been passed down from the bigger brothers such as the HDMI Source Direct and 12-bit video processing which is not commonly found on Blu-ray players in this entry level. Moreover, there is a grand button on the front panel titled 'upscale' that allows you to take your standard DVDs to 1080p/1080l/720p if need be and the player doesn't Just upscale, but also applies digital video noise reduction to eliminate any compression artifacts that exist in DVD video.
As for the disc drive, it has been centre-mounted into the chassis that's been built using Denon's Separated Unit Structure architecture. This form of architecture separates all the key components and electrical blocks (which in fact are the units most responsible for internal noise) into five separate sections to eliminate their interference.

Connectivity of DBP-1610
On the back panel, there's an Ethernet port along with the standard video connectivity options, from component to composite to HDMl. Using the Ethernet, you can access Blu-ray Profile 2.0 BD Live web-enabled interactivity as well as upgrade the firmware of the player when Denon releases an upgrade. The player also contains an SDHC card slot for adding upto 8GB of memory to the player which can be used to save Blu-ray information, music. DivX. etc. As for disc playability, there isn't much the player can't playback, from Blu-ray to DVD to even DivX HD playback, thanks to that upscaler.

User’s opinion about DBP-1610
The Denon DBP-1610 has all the goodies of a mid-level Blu-ray player except for its price that falls to let it meet the criteria for the entry-level player. Also, if you want those multi-channel analogue outs, a real metal front panel and a couple more technological upgrades, you might want to spend a couple grand more to opt for this model's upgrades. However, the picture, may not differ much. For Rs 36,900 price tag, Denon DBP-1610 is a great BD player you can opt for, particularly when it is from Denon.
