Wharfedale. the name itself says the product will be well above your expectation, however they look. The Moviestar 65+ comes to you as a neatly packed box with strongly built  real wood finish. The surrounds are also sleek to fit your palm. The subwoofer will also not create any visual annoyance. Set us will be done in a breeze.  

Technical aspects

Keeping in the mind the price you paid for it, it ought to be simple, and it is so. The material is ABS plastic, in place of very high grade one to keep the system affordable.

The satellites houses full range 3" paper cone driver capable of handling frequencies 130Hz to 20kHz. The houses a 8" long throw bass driver and handles frequency of 35 Hz at the lowest end.

Bottom line

Bottom line of course is the rock bottom pricing. In this price range you are getting a full fledged no frill home theatre system from a reputed company like wharfedale, is a steal. The system is very compact and in terms of sound quality, it will pay back every penny you have spent for it.

Boston Acoustics Sound Ware XS 5.1 - User Review

First look

This is an ultra compact and pocket friendly Home theatre system from Boston acoustics. XS stands for extra small! The 5 satellites are literally very small with only 2.5" woofers set edge to edge. Though it has a nicely built  sub woofer with a 8" driver, where no compromise done.

Technical Aspects

Though the speakers are tiny but Boston acoustics has not made any compromise in their built quality, designing or mounting procedures. Ergonomically also they are good enough. They can be mounted anywhere, even the ceiling. rubber feet are provided, in case you want to place them on floor.  

As expected the cross over frequency to the subwoofer is set to 180 Hz, about 100 Hz greater than recommended. Many critical voice and instrument frequencies fall in this range. So you should keep the sub woofer close to your TV set, otherwise there will be spatial confusion!

Bottom line

The movie sounds are excellent, considering the cost of the system but real challenge it face while delivering the music.

The resolution is high for higher frequencies but there is hiccups at the bass or, midrange frequencies, though you cannot say it is absolutely bad. Yes it has its limitations.

Those who are on tight budget and looking for a small home Theater system with some non serious music listening, this is a good buy. 

Fazon Home Theatre Speaker System From Dali - User Review

First Look

The look will definitely impress you. Beautifully curved body of Fazon's F5 is more a show piece at your room than a speaker. Tapered top end and its metal base is eye catching beauty by itself.

Technical Aspects

Dali is known for marvelous designing and equally good sound reproduction in their products.

The system consists of Fazon F5 floor standing fronts, Fazon LCR as central, and Fazon SATs as satellites. Basically all of them are made of aluminum frame. All of them has metal finish, which keeps the resonances low and increase the life of the speakers. All the speakers are protected with metal grill, which also includes the sub woofer and the tweeeters. The ultimate finish is with wood fibre, which preserveds the tonality of the sounds intact.

setting will take some time. Look at the manual while setting up. It is necessary to fit the mounting bracket and the table stand properly. The central speaker needs to be connected with a thinner gauge cable, as their connectors are smaller in respect to others.

You will like the surrounds as they can be rotated 360 degree on the stand, which is very useful. You can angle the speakers as per your requirement.

The subwoofer has 12" front firing driver and aluminum body frame to give its required rigidity.

Bottom Line

Yes... This is a fairly costly package. Mostly due the Fazon F5 floor standers. But when you consider their efficacy as full fledged towers and their capability of stereo reproduction, you have to accept that you get what you pay for. For music listening better not to turn the sub woofer on.

The system will suit all kind of rooms, including the big ones. Placement is also easy. In short it is a fantastic package, if your budget permits. 

Quadral Chromium Style Home Theatre speaker System - User Review

First Look

The speaker system is available in two colours. Black and white. Choose according to your need and your room decor. The speakers looks pretty as they don't have any sharp edges and they have ribbon tweeters in place of dome tweeters. The grill have magnets on them for fixing instead of push buttons.

The style 100 floor standing speakers are a bit unique in the sense that they don't stand straight on floor but tilt a little backwards. You have to fix the speakers on the transparent round base with three screws.

Technical Aspects

The basic technology of any home theatre system lies with the frequency response of each set of speakers. No particular speaker set should handle frequency beyond their capabilities.

In this system The front speakers, style 100 operates from 32Hz to 65Hz, and they are crossed over at 100Hz. The centre speaker style 10 handles from 49Hz to 65Hz and the surrounds style 30 operate between 40Hz to 65Hz.

The speakers can effective handles the output from AV receivers from 40 to 100 watts capacity.

The subwoofer has power rating of 150 watts and have all the necessary controls like power on off, auto and crossover settings. No wireless connectivity is available. you have to connect it through high grade RCA cable.

Bottom line

You need a moderately big room for this system to work comfortably. The extreme glossy finish need careful handling too. Installation is easy. Aesthetically it is a marvel, so is the build quality. The tonal response is very fast and crisp, you can enjoy the vocal tracks nicely in this system. Proper positioning and proper cleaning will give long term listening pleasure. While selecting AV receiver, they should be capable of delivering 60 to 100 watts output, which will do proper justice to the system.

Monitor Audio Shadow 50 Home Theatre speakers - User Review

First look

 One of the first few names come in our mind when we think of speaker system is Monitor Audio. Decade old monitor Audio is now ready to compete with the today's sleek fashion speakers for the slim TVs with Shadow series. Monitor audio has made their series 50 wall mountable and pretty sleek, yet being very sturdy and reliable.

Technical Aspects

The shadow set comprises of a pair of shadow 50 as fronts, a pair of shadow 25s as surrounds and a shadow centre as the central speakers. Maintaining today's trend this system does not have any dedicated subwoofer. You can choose from 8", 10" or, 12" according to your preference and size of your room.

Monitor audio recommends their 500 watt RXW12 with class D amplifier, the 12" subwoofer from silver series suitable for 300 Sq Ft room or, R370D from Radius series, the latter being a 10" option.

Bottom line

Performance wise this speaker system does a decent job as long as you consider it as a speaker set meant for your living room fitted next to your flat panel TV. You will be disappointed if you install it in a Home theatre room with a projector. This system has slight dip in the lower mid range frequencies from 400 - 600 Hz, particularly noticeable during chaotic or, war scenes.

Zensor 5.1 Home Theatre Speaker System From Dali - User Review

First Look

The whole system is very well crafted. Though today's fashion is changing towards the slim sized audio system, yet there are many who still like big cabinets. The entire set up is very easily manageable and will suit almost every decor.   

Technical Aspects

The Zensor 5.1 set up comprises of a pair of floor standing Zensor 7 as fronts; a pair of Zensor 1 bookshelf speakers as surrounds; Zensor Vokal as centre and lastly DALI E-12F, the sub woofer.

Zensor 7 is essentially a 2 way floor stander with a 1" soft dome tweeter and a pair of 5.25" fibre cones.

Zensor vokal is essentially of same configuration as Zensor 7.

Zensor 1 has single soft dome tweeter and a single wood fibre cone.

As with most base level speaker system the cabinet is made of MDF with adequate measures to keep away the acoustic problems.

E-12F, the sub woofer is not from the Zensor family of DALI. This speaker used with other set of speakers too.  It is equipped with a 12' woofer with a pure aluminum cone to provide stiffness. This also have class D amplifier of 170W RMS within it to deliver great linear response.

Bottom line

To extract its full potentiality, you have to choose an amplifier or AV receiver, which are aggressive tonally and upbeat. This set up has excellent entertaining capability, very much user friendly and need minimum maintenance. Lastly and not of course the least, it is Pocket friendly too!

Flat panel 5.1 HT Speaker Package Mythos XTR-60 - User Review

First Look

This speaker set will change the idea that flat panel speakers are no good option. In fact it delivers more than what you expect. This package consists of XTR-60, used as fronts and the centre, XTR- 20BP as surrounds and a giant subwoofer with a beautiful remote control SC 6000.

The look of the speakers is really great. The front speakers are mounted on smoked glass base, while the center and the surround speakers has their own feet to stand upon. You can very easily place them on the wall, either horizontally or vertically.

Technical aspects

The XTR-60 is enclosed in an aircraft grade aluminum with aluminum dome tweeters and aluminum dome XTDD drivers to deliver mid bass frequency. It has total eight 3.5" drivers.  

The XTR- 20BP surrounds are bipolar, each comprises of two 3 1/3” mid-bass drivers and disperse the sound nicely in wide area.

The super cube 6000 or, better known as SC 6000 is probably the most interesting. It is equipped with a remote control, you can now change the crossover frequency , right there from your sofa. More so with additional wireless kit you can connect this subwoofer wirelessly too. The subwoofer has one 9" active bass driver and two 10" low bass radiators. The subwoofers crossover settings can be adjusted from 40Hz to 100Hz in 5Hz increments and above 100Hz,the increments are set at 10Hz.

Bottom line

This HT speaker package is very nicely suited for a average sized room like 14'L x 14'W x 12'H. Subwoofer delivers nice bass effect. The other 5 speakers are quite sensitive and it will not ask you a very powerful AV Receiver for its performance. Little disappointment is there in the low mid range frequency, which the music lovers will be unhappy with. By the way in terms of movie viewing, for which it is meant it delivers dynamically without any sort of distortion or restrain.

Revel Concerta M10 / C10/ M8/ B120 - Home Theatre Packeage - Review

First Look:
Concerta speaker package includes M10 (fronts), C 1O (centre), M8 (surrounds) and the B120 (subwoofer) is actually a wall speaker package. If anyone doesn’t like the speakers to hang off the walls, Revel has made provisions for stands so that they can be also be used as room setup. The best part is that, the arrangement allows the fronts, i.e. the M 1Os, to be at three different heights to meet an audiophile’s preference.

Technical Details:
The real test of any Home Theater speaker system is to make one feel that the action taking place on their TV screen is actually happening around them. It is not just about generating sound for each action that someone see, but the trick is to make it sound as if it is coming from one particular source. Revel also has made sure that the entire Concerta speaker package works in harmony with each other. Technological details can be seen here 

User Opinion of Revel Concerta:
With the help of the details instruction in the exhaustive manual one can install the system fairly easily. The Concerta speaker package has surprising blend of sounds. The trick was the sleek, slender and very fast satellite used along with the bulky subwoofer. The satellites are active in bringing out the speed and energy required in the sound while watching an action-packed movie, while, the weight and the expanse of the B120 served the necessary depth in the sound. A characteristic you will notice that, the bass, though very deep and engulfing, isn’t that boomy or, overshadowing. Literally, it is very much in synchro with the fast movement of the satellite, which will make you truly believe that you are part of everything that you are watching on the screen. Any sound FX oriented movie you will see, Revel Concerta will deliver the best. While the package is thoroughly impressive for its sonic abilities to produce awesome surround sound experience, the setup falls short while you listen to any stereo. Little more mass in M 1Os would have been helpful in producing stereo output. If you listen to stereo with sub woofer on, sounds really good, but then it will be 2.1 and not stereo.

Cambridge Azur 550C CD Player , Perreaux Eloquence 250i Amplifier and RBH 1044-SE Floor Standing Speakers a perfect trio of stereo system - Review

First look
The heaviest of the bunch has got to be the 250i amplifier, what with its thick metal exterior that's been sliced up along the sides to provide heat dissipation, very much like the tough NAD amplifiers. Weighing in at 25kgs, the simplicity with which this grey shaded amplifier carries itself is commendable. Finished with a black-oak wood grain, completes this dark setup, and with its side firing woofers, adds a great touch of out-of-the-box to the otherwise conventional setup.

Cambridge Audio Azur 550C CD Player
This CD player comes with Cambridge Audio's CD transport that is used only for audio rather than as a DVD-ROM as well which is the case with some of the other CD players out there. This is hooked up to a S3 Custom CD Servo that uses an all-new chipset and their latest version of double-sided surface-mount technology that keeps the signal paths within the CD player as short as possible. Shorter signal paths means low jitter means noise-free sound. It features the Wolfson WM8740 DAC, which has been used in other Azur players before, primarily because of its flawless 24blt/192kHz capabilities. As for the transport, it has been re-worked to make it even quieter and a bracing system that's been taken from their volume knob at dead centre to the left of which lies a blue-lit LED to display everything from volume to input to other menu functions, only adds to the remarkable authority the Perreaux radiates. Even the Perreaux sign of the audio waveform scribbled on the top panel seems like a symbol of power. As for the black finished aluminum cabinet of the Azur 550C CD player, it goes remarkably well with the dark 250i amplifier, especially when placed one on top of the other (the 250i should be down of course).For power, all Azur CD players use a toroidal transformer that keeps noise low and waveform distortion to a minimum.


Perreaux Eloquence 250i integrated Stereo Amplifier
Just by looking at the massive 250i and reading that it's the most powerful and most sophisticated amplifier Perreaux has to offer, you can be sure there's immense power pumping out of this guy; specifically, 250W at 8ohms and a whopping 500W at 4ohms. That's enough to drive any pair of speakers out there, especially when that power is distributed over 5Hz to 60 kHz at a damping factor of 800. This amplifier is no joke when it comes to its specification sheet and that balanced XLR input along with the RCA inputs on the back panel adds to the seriousness of it all. The left and right channels are divided up for maximum isolation for each of the two channels when it comes to individual amplification within the amplifier. It contains three separate transformers that feed four independent power supplies so as to provide even the most difficult of speaker loads clean and sufficient power to drive them. That along with various microprocessors at various stages of amplification, from volume and balance control to the more sophisticated functions, makes this one well-controlled amplifier. This is one of the few stereo amplifiers that have such an expansive amount of options on the controller. This is primarily because of the on-board microprocessor that has been given the duty to manage the amplifier's inputs, etc, via the menus. However, you can't quite see the little options if you're sitting even five feet away from the amplifier's LED screen, so the remote does become useless at this point. When it comes to volume changes and input selection, the remote comes in handy and the dB markings of the LED screen are large enough to be seen from even 10 feet away.

RBH 1044-SE Floor Standing Speakers
The 1044 is one of the few towers out there that has mounted its bass woofer to the side of the cabinet rather than keeping it front firing. The 10" aluminium cone subwoofer has been placed to the left of the tower while two 4" aluminum cone woofers and a 1" silk dome tweeter face the front under a tightly held grille. With these grills off, you're looking at shiny aluminum drivers that dazzle with silver, however, if s best to keep grilles on with towers in this price range as their crossovers have been adjusted keeping the grilles on. The subwoofer crossover happens at 100Hz. which is even lower than the maximum value of the variable crossover knobs on stand-alone subwoofers. With a 10" woofer, you can do that quite easily because these towers can go from 30Hz-20 kHz, which comes as no surprise. However you need a sturdy enough cabinet for bass as low as this, especially when you're driving the speakers with an amplifier equipped to deliver such a high damping factor. And the RBH has just that, with each of the cabinets made from MDF and weigh only a kilo more than the 25kg amplifier.

Blue Note Mini-Koala CD player (Now Goldenote) from italy and BG Radia Z-92 speakers from the US to the finest stereo combo - review

First look
Though not from the same manufacturer (not even from the same country), the Blue Note and the BG Radia units were both black in hue that gelled together very beautifully in terms of aesthetics. While the Z-92 is clad in a rusty old school black-ash finish, the Blue Note products are dressed in a mildly lustrous piano black finish on the front panels. With not many embellishments, except for the tiny silver switches, both these products display a minimalist design approach.

Bearing the critical responsibility as the source in this system is the Mini Koala CD player, an entry level product from the renowned italian company, Biuenoten, now goldenote. it incorporates a drawer type transport designed to achieve a sturdy disc rotation mechanism. Assisting this system is the Mini Koala's special Electro-Power power supply system that is a self-adjusting power supply, which enables the player to reduce speed fluctuations (of the transport) lower than 0.0001% in any electrical system within 100 to 260 volts. For clocking purposes, it uses a proprietary Zero Clock mechanism, which makes sure that all the internal parts, mainly the transport and the DAC, are working in sync with each other so that there is practically no jitter. As for the DAC. it uses an original filter that allows the Mini Koala to reproduce a very wide bandwidth with very low signal compression.


Blue Note (Goldenote) S-l Signature Integrated Amplifier
Next in line is the S-l integrated amplifier, also an entry level product that incorporates a special proprietary amplification design called Mirror-Amp design. It works very similarly to the balanced circuit designs, where you have a mirror signal generated to eliminate any noise by using the common mode rejection method. For power supply in the S-l, they have used two different custom made transformers. The transformers are dedicated to the audio signal, while an internal galvanlcally insulated power section controls all the functions that could adversely affect the sound of the amplifier, such as the motorlzed volume control, checking relays, power 'On' LED light besides the micro-chip used for some electro-mechanical functions.

BG Radia Z-92 Floor Standing Speakers
The highlight of the Z-92 (Just like all other BG Radia speakers) is the coaxially-mounted mid and high frequency planar ribbon drivers. Planar drivers have inherited the benefits of a faster response time than any other loudspeaker driver technology available till date. But the trick is that they have used these planar drivers even for the mids section, which makes it even more alive for the listener. The planar speakers enables the speaker to have an unprecedented transient response and dispersion for the mids, which form the core of any genre of music. The rapid transient response and a wide dispersion throw results in a sound that is detailed and crystal clear. And to complement this clarity in the mids and the highs, they have the twin 6.5" black aluminum cone woofers featuring double-gap motors and neodymium magnets. The two drivers promise excellent dynamics with a tight, clean bass response.
For the speaker connectors, they have used high quality gold plated brass insulated with Teflon washers and bolts that carry the pristine signal to the next component in line, the BG Radia Z-92 speakers.

The Cambridge Audio 550C and 550A both follow the same pattern as their other siblings with freshly brushed aluminum fascias and svelte designs. They are equally graceful and elegant as most of their European companions. But considering their build quality, all your expectations of grace and elegance will vanish as you behold these mighty products. Each plate of the chassis is accurately aligned to each other, blending seamlessly as one. The same is the case with the MS Aviano 8s that grabs your attention with its strong cabinet structure. You only need to lift it once to be assured of the integrity of the speaker. Built similar to the Mezzo series, the major difference in the Aviano 8 is its straight line structure as opposed to the curved cabinets of the Mezzo. Everything else including the real wood finish available in walnut and black options and the brushed baffle remains the same as the Mezzos.

Both the CD player and amplifier are from the third generation of products that we have seen coming from the Cambridge factory. After having spent a lot of time and money on research and development, they have managed to devise an entirely new in-house designed servo solution in the form of S3 Custom CD Servo, which finds its way in the 550C. A CD servo is the unit in your CD player which is responsible for retrieving and interpreting all the information on your CDs. Simply put, it is the nervous system of your CD player. This new third generation servo from Cambridge employs an all-new chipset and ultra short signal paths. It provides the 550C an ability to recover all the digital information whilst maintaining extremely low jitter and eliminating digital noise that comes in the way of pure listening pleasure. Accompanying the servo is the newly designed transport from Cambridge which facilitates a quieter operation and a new bracket that guarantees solid rigidity while it holds the transport in the player. The usual high quality toroidal transformer that makes its way in all the Cambridge players is housed into the 550C as well, assuring lower noise.

Belonging to the new 550 stereo series along with the 550C. the 550A also features a host of new developments and redesigns. The entire output stage has been redone to achieve a better bass response and wider dynamics. Signal protection is a major factor when it comes to amplifiers and Cambridge has decided to take even better care of it. They have incorporated their proprietary CAPS protection system which constantly monitors for overloads, faults and clipping whilst taking utmost care that there is no sound degradation at all.
Powering the entire assembly is Cambridge 's home spun toroidal transformer that has guaranteed an excellent efficiency and extremely low noise for all its life. For volume control they have used the new Alps volume pot (potentiometer) control that allows a smooth, linear functioning even at very low volume levels. They have complemented this with tone control knobs for you to tweak the sound output as per your liking. There are also some constructional changes like new audiophile grade polypropylene signal capacitors, gold-plated speaker outputs and custom-made electrolytic capacitors in critical positions, which were put together claim to effectively improve the sound quality.

Mordaunt-Short Aviano 8 Floorstandlng Speaker!
Aviano is the latest range of speakers from MS that promises to be a culmination of all the technical advancements and developments that they have managed to devise until now. The Aviano series incorporate MS's latest CPC (Continuous Profile Cone) aluminum driver, which has been revised for the third time. The lightweight aluminum cone ensures a controlled movement of the driver with extremely low distortion. The tweeter unit for the Aviano borrows influences from the company's flagship speaker, the Performance series. It utilizes a high temperature voice coil with liquid cooling and damping or controlled high frequency performance and amazing detail. The Aviano 8 incorporates one such tweeter coupled with 3 CPC drivers. Binding all of them together is the purist crossover design that uses premium grade components and is mounted in a special way that isolates it from the entire assembly. This helps the unit minimize any distortion and achieve linearity in the signal flow. For the cabinet, they have used the best of both the worlds — the curved baffle from the Mezzo series and the straight cabinet from the Avant series.

Review of high end speakers from AAD - Silver Reference 7

Look and Technology
This is what you describe ‘tower speakers’, because of their slim yet very hard boned chassis that soars to the skies like Donald Trump had something to do with It. They present with three proprietary 5" Kevlar/Carbon Fiber drivers with a Helical Conductive Tweeter or HCT on the very top. Unlike standard dome tweeters, the HCT has a flat horn-loaded diaphragm to reduce roughness and improve off-axis response. The tweeter, as AAD claims, can go all the way up to 40kHz without a dip or a rise in the frequency response, something that's exceptionally hard to pull off.

As for the honeycomb bass drivers, they are split over different crossover points to give them their own allocation of the mids to the lows, while the three little bass ports on the back expel the cabinet's role in the acoustics. The reason for using small drivers or rather 5" drivers to reproduce bass rather than larger drivers are primarily for their promptness. The reason why they aren't used in other speakers is because the bass produced by smaller speakers doesn't project as far as that of a large driver.


They are surprisingly heavy for their size, but mass is always a good aspect in floor standers, especially when you see only four little drivers looking at you from the metallic finished front baffle. The speakers come to an end of their height with a curvy top plate that sure perpetuates the largeness of the glossy coat finished cabinet.

Cabinet is braced and dampened at very precise resonance points to reduce internal resonance and coloration.

Bottom line
Everything Phil Jones has claimed about these speakers is right. Using little drivers for low frequency response may just be the greatest thing that's happened to bass, especially with cabinet engineering and delicate crossover technology to boot. The Reference 7s had the added benefit of displaying clean highs and strong mids; but what bolstered its overall worth was its slim but extraordinary soundstage. It is worth the money you spend on them, and judging by their build class, they'll be assets in your living rooms for a long time.

Review of AH-NC732 the noise cancelling headphone from Denon

Denon, as we all know, is not only famed for their highly I regarded products " but also for their highly priced products. However, most of the times their heavy price tag is defensible by the overall show and quality these products offer.

First look
If there is someone who knows how to amaze their customers from the look, then it must be Denon. The 732s come in a precisely sealed enclosure that will take quite a while to disentangle. And when you finally manage to do so, you will find two unblemished ear cups molded In delicate silver finishing joined together by a soft, yet strong black band. They are accompanied by two TRS cables with different sized connectors like..for the normal MP3 players and laptop jacks and 3.5mm for the ones on mobile phones. It also comes with a very usable and strong carrying case.


Tecchnical aspects
Denon claims that the AH-NC732 cancels outside noise by 99%. This is referred to as 'active' cancellation because it has microphones in each ear cup and the circuitry processes the ambient noise while out of phase, thereby cancelling the unwanted sounds. And all of this works on a single AAA battery. As it turns out, the 732s can be used with or without the cancellation active. Now that's exactly what sets the 732s apart from almost all the noise cancelling sets available in the market today. It gives you the flexibility of using the noise cancelling feature only when required, ultimately saving on a lot of battery power. This really makes sense because why would anyone use the noise cancelling feature when there is no ambient noise at all.

For sound, Denon incorporates a proprietary design, the Acoustic Optirniser technology, which you may find on many of their headphones. The feature essentially ports on the outer ear cup and equalizes internal pressure producing better bass, cleaner fidelity and tone, hopefully. The attachment cord is detachable (again best for storage), while an extension cord is provided which is compatible with IPhone / ITouch even without an additional adapter. Each ear-cup is loaded with a 40mm driver with Neodymium magnets that is expected to deliver between 5-28,000 Hz.

Listening experience
Out of all the headphone designs we have known till date, the on-ear design Is considered to be the most uncomfortable ones. But the AH -NC732s are lightweight plus the ear cushion made of 'low-repulsion' urethane is packed in soft leather that makes them really comfortable. When you try, what these ear-cups do when it comes to cancelling the ambient noise. Activating the noise-cancelling feature without music seemed to cut off significant bass frequencies, while it tried to raise the sound pressure in your ears, but successfully blocking ambient noise. This was a fair deal, but the instant you put on some music, the headphones will take on a completely different character. The 732s will display great dynamics and clarity with extended highs with the voices forward to the core. The 'noise cancellation active' setting seemed to be augmenting the mid-range extending better clarity to certain instruments like acoustic guitars and vocals. Like in the evergreen "Hotel California", the four guitars could be heard distinctively with each guitar retaining its Inherent character. Also, the vocals were crisp and clear. Even when you will switch off the noise cancelling feature, the 732s will come across as warm and laid back. But if you like your headphones to be heavy on the bass front, you may find the 732s don't pack in the punch that you would want them to.

It is disappointing that the TRS cables provided along are too short in length makes it very inconvenient to use at times.

Bottom line
If you consider the parameters like comfort, quality and performance, in that order, the AH-NC732s certainly has Its own share of strong points (comfortable fitting, excellent noise cancellation, strong mid-range, great highs) and a few drawbacks (thinner bass, short cable). All you have to do is evaluate the mentioned points against the price-tag and you have the answer for yourself

Mirage - UNI-Theater, Nanosats and Omni S8 subwoofer User Review

The UNI-Theater is a sound bar, very much similar to the Yamaha YSP that doesn't need speakers to be positioned in the surround sound environment as all of the channels come housed in a single speaker unit that uses the walls and reflectors to emulate the channels. However, the UNI-Theater sound bar only handles the front channels (L/C/R), leaving the surround work to two Mirage Nanosats and the sub-frequencies to the Omni S8 subwoofer.

First Look
The UNI-Theater comes in a radiant aluminum cabinet stretching a good 37" wide but diving to a depth of just 4.6". This keeps with the widescreen, super-thin flat-panels we're getting in the market these days. You can decide between a black or silver finish you have the alternative of changing to grill-free sats, so you can reveal that omnipolar disc if you'd like. Sadly, the UNI-Theater can't be freed from its grille, at least not as easily as the Nanosats so it is not advisable.


Technical details
The UNI-Theater is divided into three independent chambers, each consisting of an active 3" woofer, two passive 3" polypropylene titanium deposit hybrid radiators and a 0.75" titanium hybrid tweeter. Omnipolar technology consists of a double-disc hat that contains the tweeter and is placed suspended above the 3" woofer mid-range driver. This, along with a never-before-seen tilt of the Omniguides towards the outer edges, maximizes sound dispersion, taking it to a level where it seems the left and right channels can be projected quite competently. On the back of the panel there is a switch to let the UNI-Theater know whether it's on the 'wall' or on a 'stand', accordingly changing the speakers' behavior. The wall mount and glass table-top stand come boxed with the speakers, so the choice is completely yours.

The UNI-Theater operates at an impedance of 8 ohms, while it delivers frequencies between 80Hz to 20kHz. The Omni S8 subwoofer has been sent to primarily handle all the frequencies below the 80Hz mark and any others that the UNI-Theater might be having a hard time rendering. The sub's size Is perfect for this kind of setup where the primary focus Is to minimize the space used by the surround sound system. Remember that with the drivers were individually isolated in 3 separate cabinets. The centre channel on this bar Is rock solid, the dominating member of this 6 member clan, especially while watching dialogue heavy movies like 'Heat' or even 'Revolutionary Road'. With the lights turned off, you can only place the physical position of the UNI-Theater by the centre channel, as its physical presence completely disappears from the soundstage as far as the left and right channels are concerned.

The Nanosats have always been good. In this setup, they expanded the soundstage further. Filtered through a Neo-DTS algorithm in the signal chain to get a 5.1 audio stream, the sound is remarkably clear. There is a hint of negligence to the mid-range, that made the UNI-Theater sound a little warmer, which in the case of some melancholic soundtrack works beautifully and in the case of watching 'The Godfather' on DVD, with Its primary soundtrack being 2.1. the same drop in the mid-range helps keep the levels of the wedding at the beginning of the film, away from the ear-piercing range.

Bottom line
This entire package is worth every penny, considering the space you save in your living room and the experience you're getting from the sheer Innovative use of Mirage's Omnipolar technology. The three different components, namely the UNI-Theater, the Nanosat pairs and the Omni S8 subwoofer, work brilliantly with one another. So what if the mid-range was a little dipped! At this price range, you couldn't find a better suited product for your living room.
